Fresh oil before winter makes cold starts easier and protects the engine. Find out why an autumn oil change is a good idea.

Oil change before winter — is it worth it?
4 min readAn oil change before winter is a simple step that makes cold starts easier and takes the load off the battery. Fresh oil is crucial at low temperatures.
Oil and cold starting
In winter oil thickens. Old, worn oil offers more resistance, so the starter and battery work harder. Fresh oil of the right viscosity reaches engine parts faster.
What viscosity for winter?
The first number in the designation (e.g. 5W or 0W) describes the oil’s cold behaviour — the lower it is, the better the cold start. It’s worth checking what your car’s manufacturer recommends.
- Easier starting at low temperatures
- Less load on the battery and starter
- Better engine protection right after start-up
- Peace of mind for the whole winter season
Before the winter season it’s worth combining an oil change with a battery check. Every visit of ours includes a free check of its condition.
