What oil for a Nissan 1.5 dCi?

5 min read

Oil for a Nissan 1.5 dCi is in practice the same topic as oil for a Renault — because under the bonnet works the K9K engine shared by both brands. This small, economical diesel was fitted in the Micra, Qashqai and Note among others, and the most important thing is meeting the right approval.

A shared engine, shared requirements

Since the 1.5 dCi is a Renault-Nissan alliance design, Renault approvals apply here. The key thing is whether your car has a particulate filter — it’s the DPF that most strongly affects the required oil specification.

  • Versions with a DPF — Low SAPS oil with the RN0720 standard, viscosity most often 5W30
  • Older versions without a DPF — the RN0710 standard
  • Always confirm the requirement in the manual or by VIN
  • Change the fuel filter as recommended — it protects the injection

The DPF and Low SAPS oil

If your 1.5 dCi has a particulate filter, a Low SAPS oil with reduced ash content is essential. Pouring in ordinary oil is a straight road to clogging the costly filter.

The Nissan 1.5 dCi and the Renault 1.5 dCi are the same engine — you choose the oil the same way, by the Renault approval and the presence of a DPF.

The change interval

For a small diesel a sensible interval is 10,000–15,000 km, and on short city trips closer to the lower limit. A diesel produces a lot of soot, and in cars with a DPF the oil is sometimes diluted by fuel during regeneration.

We’ll select an oil with the right Renault standard and Low SAPS for the DPF version and change the filter — at your home or business.
