Worth knowing

Brake replacement

When to replace pads and discs, how to spot wear and how car collection works?

The braking system wears with every stop, so it needs regular checks. Reacting too late means not only a longer stopping distance but also the risk of damaging discs and callipers — and a more expensive repair. The good news is that brakes usually signal wear in advance.

In our workshop we replace pads, discs and brake fluid, check the condition of callipers and lines, and confirm the cost of parts before the repair. And if you can’t come to us — we’ll collect the car from your home or company and bring it back afterwards.

How often to replace brakes?

Brake life depends on your driving style, the weight of the car and the conditions you drive in. As a rough guide:

  • Brake pads — roughly every 30,000–50,000 km (the front wears faster than the rear)
  • Brake discs — usually every second pad change, or when they drop below minimum thickness
  • Brake fluid — every 2 years regardless of mileage (it absorbs moisture and loses its properties)
  • System check — at every oil change and before a longer trip

Symptoms of worn brakes

Don’t ignore the first signals — the sooner you react, the cheaper and safer the fix. Look out for:

  • Squealing or a metallic grinding noise when braking
  • A longer stopping distance and a “soft” pedal
  • Vibration in the steering wheel or pedal when braking (warped discs)
  • The car pulling to one side while braking
  • A lit brake system warning light
  • Visibly thin pads or worn, glazed discs

FAQ — everything worth knowing about brake replacement

Not everything has to be obvious — so we’ve prepared short answers to the questions we get asked most often. Quick, clear and to the point.

Labour is listed in our price table (from the amounts shown, depending on the car). The cost of pads and discs depends on the model — we confirm the price of parts before starting the repair, with no hidden costs.

Not always. If the discs are within the thickness limit and not warped, we replace the pads only. We check the condition of the discs during the repair and tell you before replacing anything.

We match parts to your car and your expectations — from quality aftermarket brands to original parts. We always agree this with you before the repair.

Yes. On request we collect the car from your home or company across Wrocław and the surrounding area, replace the brakes in the workshop and return the finished car to your address.

Roughly every 2 years, regardless of mileage. Brake fluid absorbs moisture, which lowers its boiling point and reduces braking performance — so changing it is an important safety measure.
