Timing belt replacement
The timing drive is not the place to save money — a snapped belt usually means a full engine rebuild. We replace timing belts and chains together with the complete kit, following the manufacturer’s specification. On request we’ll collect your car from home and return it after the repair.

Worth knowing
Timing belt replacement
How often to replace it, what the kit includes and what delaying it risks?
The timing drive synchronises the crankshaft and camshaft — it makes sure the valves open exactly when they should. A worn belt can snap without warning, and the result is usually pistons meeting valves and a very expensive engine repair.
That’s why the timing drive is replaced preventively — by mileage or by time, whichever comes first. We always replace the complete kit: belt, rollers and tensioner, and on many engines the water pump too, because its failure would destroy the new kit.

How often to replace the timing belt?
The interval depends on the engine — we always check the manufacturer’s recommendation for your specific car. As a rough guide:
- Timing belt — most often every 60,000–120,000 km or every 5–6 years
- Timing chain — theoretically “for life”, in practice worth checking after 150,000–200,000 km
- Sooner — if the car has an unknown service history or you bought it used
- Sooner — with city driving, short trips and heavy loads
What does the timing kit include?
Replacing the belt alone is a false economy — worn rollers can destroy a new kit. As standard we replace:
- The timing belt (or chain)
- Guide rollers and the tensioner roller
- The timing tensioner
- The water pump — if it is driven by the timing belt
- The auxiliary (serpentine) belt — when it needs replacing at the same time
Symptoms of a worn timing drive
The timing drive rarely gives clear signals, but it’s worth paying attention to:
- A metallic knocking or whistling from the front of the engine
- Rough running and harder starting
- Traces of oil or coolant around the timing cover
- Exceeded mileage or time since the last replacement
- No record of the replacement in the car’s service history

FAQ — everything worth knowing about timing belt replacement
Not everything has to be obvious — so we’ve prepared short answers to the questions we get asked most often. Quick, clear and to the point.
It depends on the engine — a simple petrol unit is very different from a diesel with the water pump in the kit. Once you give us the make, model and engine size we’ll prepare a specific quote for parts and labour before the repair.
If the pump is driven by the timing belt — definitely yes. Replacing it separately would mean dismantling the same assembly again, and a pump failure would destroy the new timing kit.
Usually from a few hours to a full working day, depending on the engine design. We’ll give you a realistic time for your car when booking — and if you’d rather not wait, we can collect and return the car.
Yes, though less often than a belt. A stretched chain makes a characteristic rattle on start-up and can jump a tooth, leading to serious damage. We assess the chain’s condition during diagnostics.
Yes. We issue an invoice and a document confirming the work carried out together with the mileage — important when you later sell the car and for the next service interval.
